Quick Tip:

Consider installing independent dishwasher drawers that allow you to efficiently wash small or big loads or use different cycles at the same time.

Expert Q&A

How often should the water filter be changed, and are there any variables that affect how long a water filter lasts?

A:

Every water filter is different, and how often one needs to be changed is determined approximately by how many gallons of water it can handle before needing to be replaced. For example, the filter found in the PUR one-click faucet mount system delivers up to 100 gallons -- or about two to three months -- of filtered water, depending on use.

Filter life can vary slightly depending on the amount and concentration of contaminants found in the water being filtered. When a water filter nears the end of its life cycle, you may notice a slow in the water stream through the faucet, but it will never stop filtering water or reducing contaminants. Also, many faucet-mount filters include a built-in “life indicator,” which takes the guesswork out of filter replacement. The indicator changes from green, to yellow and finally to red when the filter needs to be replaced. -- As told to Jessica Tolliver
